Ang awiting ito ay isinulat ni Scott English at Richard Kerr. Ang unang title ng awiting ito ay "Brandy" at unang lumabas noong 1971 na inawit si Scott English. Noong 1972 ay inawit ito ni Bunny Walters. At noong 1974 ay gumawa ng version nito si Barry Manilow sa bagong title na "Mandy". Ito ang unang kanta ni Barry Manilow na naging number one bilang isang solo artist.
