'Lakad' is to physically go somewhere, literally “to walk”. 'Lakaran' is to journey. To ancient Filipinos, more than just a physical journey, 'Lakaran' included the inner Destination: to go towards Liwanag (The Light) and thus attain some Kaliwanagan (Enlightenment).

Kabunyan, a 35 year old mosaic artist from northern Luzon, is moving his family to the big island in the south (Mindanao). As he drives his 1974 VW Kombi, his 2000-km journey south slowly unfolds into his own personal Lakaran. From island to island (Philippine archipelago has 7108 blurbs of land jotting the Pacific), he learns that he may have already arrived at his Destination, in the midst of his island-to-island encounters.

"Lakaran ni Kabunyan (Kabunyan's Journey)" is directed by National Artist for Film Kidlat Tahimik, and is one of the shortfilms in "Lakbayan", a 2018 omnibus film which tells three tales of Filipino journeys. Featured artists include Kabunyan de Guia, Reyna Yolanda, Katrin de Guia, Kidlat Tahimik, Lopez Nauyac, Momo Dalisay, Daguob Dalisay, Panay Bukidnon School of Living Traditions (Apo Norio, Wilson Lastrilla, Cenayda Lastrilla), Boy Masculino, Perry Argel, Nune Alvarado, Bambi Beltran, Kalipay de Guia, and JAMBALAYA among others.
